What does Citronella Essential oil help with?

Citronella ( Cymbopogon nardus ) is a herbaceous plant in the lemongrass family, known for its refreshing, lemony aroma. Its leaves contain valuable essential oils that are used for their antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and cleansing effects on the skin and scalp.

Citronella Essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves and can be used as a:

• Tonic for oily and acne-prone skin - Shrinks pores, balances oiliness and limits the development of bacteria;
• Additive to a scalp mask against oiliness and dandruff - Regulates sebum secretion and has antibacterial effects;
• Topical remedy for bites or irritations - Relieves itching and reduces inflammation;
• Deodorizing lotion for feet and armpits - Inhibits the development of bacteria and unpleasant odor.

How do i use Citronella Essential oil?

1. As a toner for oily and acne-prone skin

1. Mix 2 drops of citronella oil with 1 tbsp. floral water ( e.g. witch hazel or chamomile );
2. Shake well before use;
3. Apply with a cotton pad in the morning and evening to cleansed skin, without rinsing.

2. As an additive to a scalp mask against oiliness and dandruff

1. Mix 1 tbsp. white or green clay with 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar and a little water to form a paste;
2. Add 2 drops of citronella essential oil and mix well;
3. Apply to the roots, leave for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

3. As a topical remedy for bites or irritations

1. Dilute 1 drop of citronella oil in 1 tsp. carrier oil ( e.g. jojoba or coconut );
2. Using a cotton swab or cotton ball, apply to the affected area;
3. Repeat 2-3 times daily as needed.

4. As a deodorant lotion for feet and armpits

1. Mix 3 drops of citronella oil with 50 ml of floral water ( e.g. lavender or clary sage );
2. Pour into a spray bottle and shake well;
3. Spray onto clean, dry skin as needed - especially during the summer months.
