What does Sage Essential oil help with?
Sage ( Salvia officinalis ), also known as common sage, is a perennial aromatic plant with silvery-green leaves. It has been used in folk medicine for centuries for its antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties.
The Essential oil extracted from the leaves is rich in bioactive compounds and is especially valued in skin and hair care.
Sage Essential oil can be used as a:
- Tonic for oily and acne-prone skin - Shrinks pores, regulates oiliness and soothes inflammation;
- Scalp lotion against dandruff and oiliness - Inhibits the development of microorganisms, strengthens the hair follicle and refreshes the scalp;
- Compresses for irritated skin or after hair removal - Reduces redness and promotes recovery;
- Gargle for sore gums and bad breath - Tightens tissues and limits bacteria in the oral cavity.
How do i use Sage Essential oil?
1. As a toner for oily and acne-prone skin
- Mix 1 drop of sage essential oil with 1 tsp of carrier oil ( e.g. jojoba or grapeseed );
- Apply in the evening to cleansed skin;
- Use 2-3 times a week.
2. As a scalp lotion against dandruff and oiliness
- Add 5 drops of sage essential oil to 1 tbsp. coconut oil;
- Apply to your scalp with massaging movements;
- Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash with shampoo. Repeat 1-2 times a week.
3. As compresses for irritated skin or after hair removal
- Dissolve 2 drops of sage oil in 100 ml of warm water;
- Dip a clean cotton cloth in the mixture;
- Apply as a compress for 5-10 minutes on the desired area.
4. As a gargle for sore gums and bad breath
- In a glass of warm water, add 1 drop of sage oil and 1 tsp. baking soda;
- Stir well;
- Use to gargle 1-2 times daily.
